Shari Pratt is currently pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts majoring in painting and installation. She also holds a Bachelor of Art Education Major from the University of British Columbia. She currently teaches a variety of classes and workshops in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed-media throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. In 2005, Shari founded Creative Kaos School of Art in Maple Ridge where she teaches to over 1000 students per year. Shari has shown in numerous Solo and Group Exhibitions throughout BC, Canada, and the United States. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Portrait Society of Canada. Shari has won many awards including the Alex Colville Award for Excellence in Acrylic Painting and the British Columbia Arts Council Scholarship Award. She has participated in several residencies and her work can be found in many private collections in Canada, USA, Europe, and Asia. As an artist, Shari considers herself a mixed-media figurative acrylic painter. She is currently interested in the correlation between the built surface and traditional figurative painting. A strange, almost haunting, feeling is found in her subjects who draw in and captivate viewers. Her work is influenced by artists such as Alice Neel, Gerhard Richter and Sophie Jodoin as well as photographers such as Vivian Maier and Diane Arbus. www.sharipratt.com
